Canada's plant resource base is critical to the well-being of all Canadians. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency plays an important role in protecting Canada's plant resource base from pests and diseases.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency develops and delivers programs and services designed to protect Canada's plant resource base.

Our activities include:

• participation in international standard setting for phytosanitary measures
• pest surveillance
• plant health risk assessments
• verifying that exports of plants and plant products meet foreign requirements
• verifying that imports of plants and plant products meet Canadian requirements

  • import requirements for packages of flower bulbs purchased in the Netherlands
  • importations of houseplants from the Continental United States and Hawaii
• visiting farms and plant nurseries
