Introduction

Pear trellis rust is a pest of Juniperus species and Pyrus species plants. In North America it has been known to occur in parts of south coastal British Columbia (BC) and California since the early 1960's. In 1961 regulatory controls were placed on the South Coast Region of BC to mitigate the spread of the disease. Although the quarantine is no longer in place, the movement of pear trellis rust host material from infested areas of BC continues to be regulated.

Scope

This directive is intended for the use of the CFIA inspection staff and commercial growers and outlines the necessary domestic movement requirements for hosts of the pear trellis rust including: species of Pyrus, Pyronia, Juniperus and one species of Cupressus.

1.0 General Requirements

1.2 Fees

The CFIA is charging fees in accordance with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency Fees Notice. Anyone requiring information regarding fees may contact any local CFIA office or visit our Fees Notice Web Site.

2.0 Policy

This policy explains the domestic movement requirements for pear trellis rust host material.

The CFIA must issue a Movement Certificate for Juniperus and Pyrus spp. from the infested area in British Columbia, identifying the maximum quantity of nursery stock intended for shipment.
