SUBJECT: ARRANGEMENT REGARDING THE IMPORT OF RAW ROE-ON FARMED SCALLOP PRODUCTS FROM CHILE

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and the Fisheries Health Department (SERNAPESCA) of the National Fisheries Service of Chile have signed an Arrangement which allows for the import into Canada of raw roe-on farmed scallop products from Chile. Effective January 1, 2007, raw roe-on farmed scallop products from Chile will be permitted entry into Canada provided that the consignment is accompanied by a Certificate to Export Raw Roe-On Scallops Farmed Scallop Products from Chile to Canada issued by SERNAPESCA.

Under the Arrangement, only raw roe-on farmed scallops from shippers listed on the United States Interstate Certified Shellfish Shippers List (ICSSL) will be certified for export to Canada.. The ICSSL can be found the following website at: https://info1.cfsan.fda.gov/shellfish/sh/shellfis.cfm. Further details of the Arrangement can be found on the CFIA website at: http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/anima/fispoi/export/mupd/chile.shtml

Prior to importing raw roe-on scallops from Chile, importers must complete an Import Service Centre (ISC) Cover Sheet for each shipment and submit, to the nearest CFIA ISC, a copy of the completed Cover sheet and the Certificate to Export Raw Roe-On Farmed Scallop Products from Chile to Canada issued by SERNAPESCA for that shipment. The ISC will stamp the Cover sheet for shipments meeting the conditions of entry into Canada, and fax it back to the importer/broker to present to the Border Services Agency for release of the shipment into Canada at the port of entry. A copy of the certificate should also accompany the import notification provided to the CFIA for that shipment. Further details on the requirements and procedures for importing live and raw molluscan shellfish can be found at the following website at : http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/fssa/fispoi/import/molimpe.shtml.
