Parade

The Stampede Parade is a two-and-a-half-mile smile. A fitting way to kick off The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, the Parade begins with the World Champion Calgary Stampede Showband. A dynamic ribbon of pageantry follows, featuring beautiful floats, bands, riders, celebrities and cultural entries. Parade Marshals have included Hollywood legends and humanitarian icons.

Arrive early on the route to ensure your seat. Paid (reserved) seating is limited to 20% of the route.

Parade Marshall

Calgary Stampede Parade Marshals occupy a prestigious place in our history. It is fitting that our Centennial Parade Marshal exemplifies the very best of western heritage, values and culture. The 2012 Stampede Parade will be led by legendary country music recording artist Ian Tyson.

From his early years as a rodeo cowboy through his storied career as a musician, Ian Tyson has become a Canadian icon. He has been inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame, and his song "Four Strong Winds" was voted the greatest Canadian song of all time. He became a Member of the Order of Canada in 1994, and was inducted into the Alberta Order of Excellence in 2006.

To commemorate the Calgary Stampede Centennial, Ian Tyson will be joined by seven honorary Parade Marshals, extraordinary leaders from the Treaty Seven Nations: Chief Charles Weasel Head, Chief Fred Rabbit Carrier, Chief Gayle Strikes With A Gun, Chief Sanford Big Plume, Chief Bruce Labelle, Chief Ernest Wesley and Chief Darcy Dixon.

First Nations have played a prominent role in the Calgary Stampede since 1912, when 1,800 members of the Treaty Seven led the Parade at the request of Stampede visionary, Guy Weadick.

The official Stampede Parade begins at 9 a.m. Friday, July 6.
