QUEBEC JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, April 26, 2013 – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Manon Savard, a puisne judge of the Superior Court of Quebec in Montréal, is appointed a puisne judge of the Court of Appeal of Quebec to replace Mr. Justice R. Wagner, who was appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada on October 5, 2012.

Madam Justice Savard was appointed a puisne judge of the Superior Court of Quebec in 2009. She received a bachelor of arts in business administration from McGill University in 1982 and a bachelor of laws from the Université de Montréal in 1985. She was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1986.

Prior to her appointment to the Superior Court of Quebec, she was an associate with Ogilvy Renault (now Norton Rose) from 1986 to 1993 and a partner from 1994 to 2009. Her main areas of practice were employment and labour law, civil and administrative law. Through her involvement with various organizations, including the Conseil consultatif du travail et de la main-d’oeuvre of the Quebec Ministry of Labour, she developed an expertise in labour and employment law, and is the author of several publications on that subject. She was also a member of the Discipline Committee and the Committee on Women in the Legal Profession of the Quebec Bar, as well as a member of the Canadian Bar Association.

This appointment is effective immediately.
