Quebec Judicial Appointments Announced

OTTAWA, March 8, 2013 - The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Karen L. Kear-Jodoin, a lawyer with the firm Robinson Sheppard Shapiro in Montréal, is appointed a puisne judge of the Superior Court of Quebec in Montréal, to replace Madam Justice M-C. Laberge, who resigned effective January 19, 2013.

Madam Justice Kear-Jodoin received a Bachelor of Arts (psychology) from McGill University in 1976. She received a Bachelor of Civil Law from the University of Ottawa in 1981 and a Bachelor of Laws in 1982. She was admitted to the Bar of Quebec and the Bar of Ontario in 1984.

Madam Justice Kear-Jodoin has been a lawyer with Robinson Sheppard Shapiro since 1987 and an associate since 1994. She practised with the firm of Brennan Tunney Niebergall in Ottawa from 1984 to 1987. Her main area of practice was family law.

Madam Justice Kear-Jodoin has been an active member of the Canadian Bar Association since 2002. She was an executive board member of the family law section and national president from 2008 to 2009. She has also been active with the Montreal Bar Association since 1999 and was a member of the liaison committee with the Superior Court for family law matters. She has been a frequent speaker for various organizations, including the National Judicial Institute and she has been recognized by both LEXPERT and The Best Lawyers as a leading attorney in family law. Madam Justice Kear-Jodoin has been active with several community and charitable organizations, including the Montreal Children’s Hospital and the Canadian Kidney Foundation.

These appointments are effective immediately.
