Help for Kids

If you understand how your children may be reacting to the separation or divorce, it can help you meet their needs and answer their questions.

Section 2 of the parenting guide offers helpful information. It suggests ways to help your child to cope with your separation or divorce.

The Department of Justice has also created some tools that may help your kids:

What happens next?

What happens next? Information for kids about separation and divorce is a booklet that may help your children understand what is going on. It may also help reassure your children that they are not alone and that it is normal to feel the way they do. Some parents have said that younger children opened up more about their feelings after having the booklet read to them.

The booklet is mainly for children between the ages of nine and 12. However, children of other ages may find it helpful too.

You can print a copy of this booklet (PDF, 2.33MB) here. You may ask for a paper copy by contacting us.

Online calendar for kids

An online calendar can help children keep track of special events in their lives, including the times they are supposed to be with each parent. Parents and children can share the calendar by e-mail.
