Older workers often face challenges in obtaining work, despite their years of experience and skills training. The Economic Action Plan recognizes this and is supporting the ThirdQuarter project, an innovative initiative designed to help employers find experienced workers over 50, by providing $6 million over three years to extend and expand the project to key centres across the country.
The project provides an online forum that makes it easier for individuals to find jobs that match their skills, while helping businesses and organizations narrow the field of potential employees to those who have the skills they are seeking. It has led to over 900 older workers being hired.
Economic Action Plan also supports older workers through the Targeted Initiative for Older Workers, which helps unemployed workers aged 55 to 64 return to work. The Government has allocated $50 million to help ensure that displaced older workers have access to the training and employment programs they need to secure new employment.
