Low taxes, reducing unnecessary red tape and opening new markets are key to creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity for manufacturers and exporters
The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade, accompanied by Brad Butt, Member of Parliament for Mississauga–Streetsville, today outlined the many ways the Harper government is supporting Canada’s world-class manufacturing sector while meeting with workers and representatives of Lynch Fluid Controls Inc.’s world-class manufacturing facilities.
"Our government is working hard to open new markets for Canada’s world-class manufacturers because we know that this sector is critical to ensuring that we continue to create new jobs and new sources of prosperity for workers and families across Canada,
" said Minister Fast. "Since 2006, our government has assisted manufacturers by lowering taxes, making Canada the first tariff-free zone for manufacturers in the G-20, reducing unnecessary red tape and improving conditions for business investment. These combined efforts have helped Canada’s manufacturing sector to compete and innovate in the 21st century global economy.
"
Manufacturers are major contributors to the Canadian economy, employing approximately 1.8 million Canadians in a wide range of industries across Canada—from aerospace to automotive and machinery, and from food processing to shipbuilding.
Lynch Fluid Controls, a privately owned company, designs, manufactures and distributes high-quality hydraulic motion control systems, which are sold to domestic and international customers.
"We are pleased that the government is putting the right policies, tools and services in place to help the manufacturing sector remain competitive,
" said Ernie Lynch, President of Lynch Fluid Controls. "The global economic downturn has hurt Canadian manufacturing, and we need access to new markets abroad to sell our products and keep good jobs in our community.
"
During his remarks in Mississauga, Minister Fast provided an overview of the Harper government’s pro-trade plan and outlined efforts to open new markets, noting that the government is pursuing trade talks with some of the largest, most dynamic and fastest-growing economies in the world, including India, Japan, the European Union and the countries that make up the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
"By keeping taxes low, cutting red tape and promoting Canadian exports in dynamic and fast-growing markets around the world, we are helping companies such as Lynch Fluid Controls succeed in today’s competitive global economy,
" added the Minister. "Our government will continue to support Canadian manufacturers through initiatives that will unleash their potential to innovate and compete in the global economy, which will benefit hard-working Canadian families for years to come.
"
