Circumpolar Affairs

Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC) has an important role to play in the promotion of circumpolar cooperation among the eight Arctic countries through the implementation of the Statement on Canada’s Arctic Foreign policy which articulates the international dimension of Canada’s Northern Strategy. Through active participation in Canada’s multilateral (Arctic Council) and bilateral (Russia, Norway, US) fora in the Arctic, and in collaboration with the territories and Aboriginal peoples, AANDC works to strengthen governance and improve the quality of life in Canada’s North.
