  • Direct deposit has been used by the Government of Canada since 1991, and it will replace cheques by April 2016.

  • The Receiver General makes direct deposit payments in 33 foreign countries.

  • The Receiver General (RG) for Canada participated with the Bank of Canada in the creation of an informational video on "Cheque Fraud". The video helps retailers identify the security markings on RG cheques and also sensitize them to identity fraud while cashing RG cheques.

  • In fiscal year 2012-2013, the RG issued approximately 315 million federal payments, about 79.3 percent by direct deposit.
