Public service is an important and honourable profession, and I feel very privileged to have been given the opportunity to serve as your Clerk. I want to ensure that you have the appropriate tools to fulfill your responsibilities to the best of your abilities, and to continue to provide excellent service to Canadians.
My team developed this website in order to profile the important and varied work performed by public servants. In this section, public servants will find a personalized video and messages I have sent recognizing your contributions to the well-being of Canadians. Messages to the Public Service
I take pride in the public service and the role we play in advancing the public good.
Whether it is serving Canadians at home, or protecting and promoting the well-being of Canadians abroad, public servants are integral to our society and economy and are always safeguarding the interests of Canadians.
As of March 31, 2009, we were approximately 274,000 employees including scientists, economists, customs officers and aid workers. Collectively, we design and deliver policies, programs and services that touch the lives of Canadians and their families every day.
It is my pleasure to recognize your contributions, in particular on issues that involve broad sectors and multiple departments. Here are some messages that I have been honoured to send to you.
GCPEDIA
One of my priorities as Clerk is Public Service Renewal, including the renewal of our workplaces -- where we work, how we work, and the tools with which we work -- to better serve Canadians and deliver on the business of Government.
In building a workplace that better reflects the demographics of our diverse population -- a population that is increasingly connected through social media and web 2.0 technologies -- we will automatically ensure that there is a diversity of views in policy development and program delivery. By extension, this will facilitate services that are suitable for everyone.
And, in order to appeal to new graduates, mid-career individuals and seasoned public servants, we must market ourselves and be well positioned to demonstrate how much we have to offer.
On this front and in the spirit of collaboration, I launched a GCPEDIA page where I have invited public servants to develop a collaboratively authored document to help inform my thinking on the workplace. I am reflecting upon the forward agenda for public service renewal, and your views matter. Tell me about the challenges you face on a daily basis and the creative methods you have devised to address them.
