Consumer Price Index - March 2017 (04/21/2017)
Information released today by Statistics Canada indicates that the Yellowknife All-Items Consumer Price Index in March rose 1.5% compared to one year ago. By comparison, the annual price increase was 1.6% for Canada, 2.7% for Whitehorse, 1.5% for Edmonton and 1.6% for Iqaluit.

Labour Force Survey - March 2017 (03/10/2017) The employment rate in the Northwest Territories was 66.0% in March, up from 65.3% in February. Out of 32,400 residents 15 years of age and older, 21,400 were employed, an increase of 300 persons from the previous month. Employment increases from last month were concentrated in full-time positions, among males and persons aged 25 and over.

2016 NWT Labour Force Activity (03/27/2017)
The Labour Force Survey is a source of monthly estimates of employment and unemployment. On a yearly basis, Statistics Canada combines monthly data to come up with detailed annual estimates. This report provides information on the Northwest Territories (NWT) labour force activity for 2016 with comparisons from previous years.

NWT Population - January 2017 (03/23/2017)
On January 1, 2017 Statistics Canada estimated that 44,263 people were living in the Northwest Territories, a decrease of 0.4% from the previous year. At the national level, Canada's population increased by 1.3% between January 1, 2016 and January 1, 2017. Growth in the majority of provinces and territories exceeded the national level with the exception of Quebec (0.8%), Nova Scotia (0.7%) and New Brunswick (0.4%); Newfoundland & Labrador stayed unchanged.

Private and Public Capital Expenditures - 2017 Intentions (02/28/2017)
Statistics Canada has released 2017 investment intentions for private and public capital expenditures for Canada, the provinces and the territories. Compared to 2016, overall 2017 capital expenditures for the Northwest Territories are expected to decrease by 24.9% to $974.6 million. This total is comprised of $640.2 million in private investment and $334.4 million in public investment.

Census Population and Dwelling Counts - Census 2016 (02/08/2017)
Census information released today by Statistics Canada indicates that the population count for
Northwest Territories was 41,786 persons at the time of the 2016 census. This represents a small increase,
less than 1%, compared to 2006 and is the smallest 10-year growth rate of all provinces and territories.
These population counts differ from population estimates. Statistics Canada conducts follow-up studies to
determine the number of persons missed or double counted in the census. This coverage adjustment, along with
the population counts from the census, will form the basis of the final 2016 population estimates which are
expected to be released in September 2018.

Today, Statistics Canada released initial 2015 estimates of income and expenditure accounts and revised 2015 estimates of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by industry for Canada, the provinces and territories.
