Second Language training - ALLIES Web

ALLIES is the acronym for Autonomous Language Learning in Interaction with Elements in Synergy.

ALLIES Web is a language learning application developed by the Canadian Defence Academy.

It is available at all times on both Internet and DWAN. Therefore, you can study when and where you wish.

ALLIES Web is an online second language training program for CAF members that:

  • Has content and is organized according to the competency levels of the Canadian Armed Forces Second Language evaluation. You can even prepare for your language test.
  • Allows you to practise reading, writing, listening, and speaking and maintain your language skills.
  • Allows you to focus on the skills you need and skip the rest.
  • Enables your progress and success to be tracked automatically, which means you can measure your own achievement.

ALLIES Web Program in Self-directed Study Mode (without a tutor) is available only to CAF members. ALLIES Web enables CAF members to learn in autonomous mode the basics of their second official language or to maintain linguistic skills already learned.

To request an account, you have to apply for an account online by visiting http://allies.mil.ca/index-eng.aspx.

Once you receive your account information, login to the program from either the DWAN or the Internet.

There is a multimedia tutorial and an introductory lesson to help you get started.

Once you begin, you will be able to choose which lessons you want to take and how much of each one you want to complete. If the learning is too easy, move on quickly. If the learning gets too difficult, move back and review.
