The Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) for Workplace Chemicals

The GHS is an internationally consistent approach to classifying chemicals and communicating hazard information though labels and safety data sheets (SDSs). An international team of hazard communication experts, including experts from Canada, developed the GHS.

The aim of the GHS is to have, worldwide, the same:

• Criteria for classifying chemicals according to their physical, health and environmental hazards; and
• Hazard communication requirements for labels and SDSs.
