Geography and Boundaries

The Atlas of Canada, 6th Edition, includes 393 interactive maps, Toporama (topographic maps) and over 1000 reference and archived maps on all aspects of the Canadian geography. The interactive maps, which include descriptive texts, were published from August 1999 to January 2010.

The Canada Centre for Remote Sensing's Geodetic Survey Divison delivers the Canadian Spatial Reference System, providing the geodetic data used as standards for accurate three-dimensional positioning in Canada, and the Earth Observation Data Service, encompassing the reception, processing, archiving and dissemination of remotely sensed earth observation data for Canada.

The Geological Survey of Canada is Canada's premier agency for geoscientific information and research, with world-class expertise focusing on geoscience surveys, sustainable development of Canada's resources, environmental protection, and technology innovation.

The Geographical Names Board of Canada authorizes names on official, federal government maps.

The Surveyor General Branch (SGB) is mandated through various acts and regulations to survey and contribute to the management of jurisdictional boundaries to ensure Canada has the boundary certainty required to exert its sovereignty and meet its legal obligations.
