Satellite Acquisition Services

Headquarters of the Canada Centre for Remote SensingCanada Centre for Remote Sensing (CCRS) ground station services include data reception provided through the two CCRS receiving stations, state-of-the-art Earth Observation archive and data management systems, and the management and operation of Processing and Data Dissemination systems. The Satellite Acquisition Services (SAS) group is the client interface for these reception, archiving, and/or processing services.

Satellite Acquisition Services (SAS), located at 588 Booth Street in Ottawa, Ontario, coordinates the scheduling and reporting on the day-to-day operations of the Prince Albert and Gatineau Satellite Receiving Stations.

SAS provides a single interface for Satellite Operating Agencies (SOAs), data distributors and data clients to the resources of the CCRS ground stations. Currently SAS liases with SOAs to plan acquisition of data from several satellites and data distributors of remote sensing products.

Acquisition Planning

SAS will liaise with clients to establish an acquisition plan to satisfy their needs. This service includes:

  • analysis of suitable satellite, sensor, and date combinations;
  • resolving conflicts with other client requests or satellite and ground resources;
  • consideration of alternatives and replanning when necessary;
  • submission of the acquisition plan to the Satellite Operating Agency.

SAS will provide feedback to the client at every stage of the process to keep them informed of the status of their data request.

Technical Support

Do you have questions about data acquisition services?

SAS offers clients a single point of contact for solutions. We draw upon the vast resources and knowledge base of CCRS and the geomatics community to satisfy your information needs.

Product Ordering

SAS Order Desk staff assists clients, from the novice to the expert user, with the preparation and submission of their product orders.

Reception Scheduling

SAS has a long history of expertise in the scheduling of data reception from multiple satellite programs (eg: SPOT, RADARSAT, Landsat, ERS, ENVISAT) to the two satellite reception stations operated by CCRS (Prince Albert, Gatineau).

For the Satellite Operating Agency, the SAS coordinates the activities of Prince Albert Satellite Receiving Station and Gatineau Satellite Receiving Station to maximize the reception of data from your satellite. We provide a single interface for the processing of user requests, scheduling and reporting functions.

For the data client, SAS provides a single interface for the necessary interaction with the Satellite Operating Agency, notification of successful planning and acquisition of your data request.

Processing Services

  • CCRS currently operates processing and dissemination systems for high volume clients using client provided systems and communication links.
  • CCRS has demonstrated expertise to integrate and operate client-provided processing and data dissemination systems.
