FEDERAL COURT JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, April 26, 2013 – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Glennys L. McVeigh, a senior counsel with the Public Prosecution Service of Canada in Saskatoon, is appointed a judge of the Federal Court to fill a new position according to s.95 of Bill C-36.

Madam Justice McVeigh attended the University of Saskatchewan, College of Arts, and completed a bachelor of laws in 1992. She was admitted to the Bar of Saskatchewan in 1993 and is a past member of the Bar of Nunavut.

Madam Justice McVeigh has been senior counsel at the Public Prosecution Service of Canada in Saskatoon since 2009, and prior to that was counsel with the Department of Justice Canada from 1998 to 2009. She has conducted both trial and appellate work and appeared before the Saskatchewan courts, the Federal Court and the Federal Court of Appeal. Her main practice areas were criminal prosecutions, civil litigation, administrative and immigration law. From 1992 to 1998, she was an associate with Jamieson Bains in Saskatoon, where she practised in civil and criminal litigation.

Madam Justice McVeigh was a member of the Saskatoon Bar Association and the Canadian Bar Association. She was a part-time lecturer at the University of Saskatchewan Law School from 2009 to 2010. She also volunteers with numerous community and civic organizations.

This appointment is effective immediately.
