Alberta Judicial Appointment Announced

OTTAWA, June 7, 2013 – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Eldon J. Simpson, a judge of the Provincial Court of Alberta, is appointed a judge of the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta and a member ex officio of the Court of Appeal of Alberta, to replace Mr. Justice G.A. Verville (Edmonton), who elected to become a supernumerary judge as of March 1, 2013.

Mr. Justice Simpson was appointed a judge of the Provincial Court of Alberta in 2003 and has been Assistant Chief Judge of the Northern Region since 2009. He received a Bachelor of Science from Ohio State University in 1973 and a Bachelor of Laws in 1984 from the University of Alberta. He was admitted to the Bar of Alberta in 1987.

Prior to his appointment to the provincial court, he managed a general practice in the Peace River area (1985 to 2003) with a focus on criminal law and family law.

This appointment is effective immediately.
