The 1812 Commemoration Fund

The Government of Canada has undertaken many initiatives to mark the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812. One of these initiatives was the creation, under the Department of Canadian Heritage, of the 1812 Commemoration Fund, a three-year funding initiative. The goal of the Fund was to foster greater awareness and understanding among Canadians of the importance of the War of 1812 in our history.

Projects Funded

The Fund has provided support to numerous community-based projects across the country that covered a wide range of perspectives on the War of 1812 such as major battles, important events, heroes and the valuable contributions of First Nations, Métis and African Canadians.   Projects include commemorative events and ceremonies, learning materials, exhibits, historical re-enactments, interpretive programming and tours, plaques and monuments, documentary films, educational websites, interactive new media content, theatrical and musical performances, artworks and research projects.

Please consult our media room for our funding announcements.
