It’s National Aboriginal Day!!!!

Each year on June 21st thousands of school kids gather to celebrate National Aboriginal Day in the Nation’s Capital.

It’s one of many exciting programs that Turtle Island Tourism Company delivers  ….offering a rare opportunity for participants to experience Aboriginal peoples’ rich culture, teachings and history.

The 100% Aboriginal-owned Turtle Island Tourism Company has built a solid reputation for creating authentic events that reflect, and respect the diverse Aboriginal cultures of our country.

Aboriginal Experiences is Turtle Island Tourism Company’s permanent site on the traditional and sacred territory of the Algonquin People….directly across the river from Canada’s Parliament Buildings.

Over the season here at Aboriginal Experiences we see probably 15,000 or more visitors…many of them in the Spring and Fall are local student groups …and throughout the year we do a lot of international visitors as well… we really enjoy teaching them and sharing a little bit more about Aboriginal culture.

Performers, staff and vendors are all part of Turtle Island Tourism company’s Aboriginal-first policy….

We do try and spend all of our revenues on other Aboriginal businesses…print companies, craft suppliers, you know…like a lot of drum groups and local dancers that we bring in …so we do try and support the Aboriginal economy as much as we can.

One of Turtle Island Tourism company’s signature events is a festival during Summer Solstice to celebrate National Aboriginal Day.

In collaboration with the National Capital Region National Aboriginal Day Committee, events take place over a three day period.

The Summer Solstice Arts Festival is a showcase for Aboriginal talent that attracts families throughout the weekend to the Victoria Island venue.

At the Museum of Civilization students celebrate National Aboriginal Day by learning first-hand about First Nations, Inuit and Métis cultures.

Well…we are celebrating Aboriginal Day and we are celebrating the people who were here first …and what they did

We’ve seen very amazing things here …and we’ve seen hoop dances and throat singing and other cool stuff.

It’s a great honor to be able to show the culture around the world for the ones who were not able to show this in the past.
