Global Affairs

The Global Affairs unit coordinates Canadian Heritage's contribution to the activities of the following international multilateral organizations: the United Nations System, including UNESCO and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Commonwealth, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and international financial institutions such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The unit also ensures that Canadian Heritage is represented on the Executive Committee of the Canadian Commission for UNESCO (CCU), and coordinates Canada's participation in the International Network on Cultural Policy (INCP), within which Canada chairs the Working Group on Cultural Diversity and Globalization. Lastly, the unit follows up on numerous horizontal issues, particularly with regard to human rights, multiculturalism, Aboriginal affairs and linguistic diversity.
