In addition to supporting the principles enunciated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Canada has ratified seven United Nations human rights treaties and is required to submit reports on its implementation of each of these treaties:

International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) - accession by Canada in May 1976 (text of the Covenant, the first optional protocol , views of the UN Committee on the merit of communications against Canada, Canada's most recent reports and the UN Committee's conclusions on these reports).

International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) - ratified by Canada in May 1976 (text of the Covenant, Canada's most recent reports and the UN Committee's conclusions on these reports).

International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) - accession by Canada in October 1970. (text of the Convention, Canada's most recent reports and the UN Committee's conclusions on these reports).

Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) - ratified by Canada in December 1981 (text of the Convention, the optional protocol, Canada's most recent reports and the UN Committee's conclusions on these reports)

Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) - ratified by Canada in December 1991.
