Member of Parliament Gary Schellenberger Announces Support for Commemorative Mural in Milverton
MILVERTON, Ontario, September 27, 2013 - Gary Schellenberger, Member of Parliament (Perth–Wellington), on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced funding for a mural celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Milverton Fair.
With this support, the Milverton Agricultural Society will produce a mural of 15 photos to be placed inside the Agricultural Society building. Photos will be selected from among those donated by community members and will highlight the Fair’s past and present activities.
“The Milverton Fair has played a key role in this community for many generations, and it is most fitting that its 150th anniversary be celebrated through a display of some of its most significant moments,” said Mr. Schellenberger. “As a result of this support, the town will have a lasting reminder of this important part of its history.”
“Our Government is proud to invest in celebrations and commemorations, like the Milverton Fair’s 150th anniversary, that contribute to our collective identity and define who we are as Canadians,” said Minister Glover. “On the road to Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017, let us celebrate all of the things that make Canada the united, strong and free country we live in today.”
“Receiving the mural grant from Canadian Heritage in honour of the 150th anniversary of the Milverton Fair is the icing on the cake to a very memorable year for our Society,” said Brenda Robertson, President of the Milverton Agricultural Society. “We have played an active role in our community for the last century and a half, and now we will be able to pictorially share our story with all who attend our many community events held at the Milverton Agri Centre.”
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $7,345 through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
