Statement by the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Occasion of Culture Days

OTTAWA, September 27, 2013 - Culture is the very expression of who we are as individuals and as a nation. Our Government is committed to supporting Canada’s arts, culture, and heritage, and we know how important they are to our communities, our identity, and our economy.

The fourth annual Culture Days weekend, from September 27 to 29, 2013, is an opportunity for all Canadians to get involved in the artistic and cultural life of their communities. I invite you to take part in this national celebration of arts and culture and enjoy free Culture Days public activities.

We are proud to have contributed to the growing success of Culture Days since the first edition in 2010. The 2012 Culture Days events drew 1.6 million Canadians to 7,000 free activities in 850 cities and towns across the country.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I commend the Culture Days organizing committees, the provinces and territories, and all the private organizations, artists, and volunteers involved for making arts and culture accessible to all Canadians.
