AANDC NT Region- Who are we?

Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC) is responsible for two mandates, Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development. Together, these programs support Canada’s Aboriginal and northern peoples in the pursuit of healthy and sustainable communities and broader economic and social development objectives.

What is AANDC doing to support a strong and healthy Northwest Territories?

In the NT Region, AANDC employs a team of Northerners who support a strong and healthy territory by:
  • Upholding and strengthening Canada’s relationship with Aboriginal peoples
  • Promoting and developing relationships with Northerners and stakeholders
  • Supporting responsible resource development
  • Advancing devolution
  • Advocating northern interests

Highlights

AANDC has a diverse mandate in the Northwest Territories which includes administering economic development programs, and acting as a regulatory authority on major mining and infrastructure projects. Our programs and services play an important part in the day-to-day workings of the territory. AANDC hires people from many different fields, such as geology, finance, information technology, resource management, Aboriginal affairs, human resources and the environment.
