News Release — Minister Kenney announces appointment to the Canadian Race Relations Foundation

Ottawa, May 6, 2013 — Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney announced today the appointment of Ms. Jayashree Thatte Bhat, PhD, of Calgary, to the Canadian Race Relations Foundation’s Board of Directors.

The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of a Chair and up to 11 other directors appointed by the Governor in Council.

Ms. Jayashree Thatte Bhat is active in Canada, the U.S.A. and India as a social worker, speaker, writer, teacher and musical performer. She is the Founder of an organization dedicated to creating awareness of breast cancer in rural India, and she has worked for 11 years to help women and their families learn about and deal with the disease. Ms. Jayashree Thatte Bhat is also the Founder and Director of the School of Indian Languages and Performing Arts in Calgary as well as a Board Member and teacher for the Calgary Immigrants Aid Society.

Ms. Jayashree Thatte Bhat was also a Lecturer of Indian musicology and Area Chief Editor for Indian music for The City University of New York, U.S.A. Prior to earning her PhD in classical music, Ms. Jayashree Thatte Bhat worked in the field of medical research after earning a degree in chemistry from York University in Toronto.
