News Release — Find a Citizenship Ceremony near you with new interactive map

Ottawa, June 25, 2013 — A new online ARCHIVED – interactive map will help Canadians and permanent residents more easily find citizenship and reaffirmation ceremonies being held on Canada Day in their area, Citizenship,  Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney announced today.

“At over 33 citizenship ceremonies on Canada Day, we will welcome new citizens and reflect on the many freedoms, rights and responsibilities that we share,” said Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney. “This is also an ideal time for all Canadians to reaffirm their citizenship as a sign of how much this country means to us.”

During the citizenship ceremony, permanent residents take the oath of citizenship, receive their citizenship certificatescitizenship certificate and are welcomed into the Canadian family. A citizenship judge usually presides over the ceremony and administers the oath of citizenship. All Canadians can participate by repeating the oath of citizenship and reaffirming their commitment to Canada.

The map is part of a growing suite of online Web tools available on the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) website. All these new tools are part of the government’s efforts to create a more responsive, user-friendly and efficient citizenship process that benefits citizenship applicants as well as Canadians alike.

Canadians can also post their thoughts, pictures and videos to CIC’s Citizenship Facebook page and take to Twitter to show the world how they intend to celebrate their citizenship on Canada Day across the country or around the world.
