Health Canada recognizes that a safe food supply is a major contributing factor to the health of Canadians.
We work with governments, industry and consumers to establish policies, regulations and standards related to the safety and nutritional quality of all food sold in Canada. Health Canada is responsible for assessing the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's activities related to food safety. The Department also evaluates the safety of veterinary drugs used in food-producing animals.
The CFIA is responsible for enforcing the food safety policies and standards that Health Canada sets.
