Commitment to Learning and Development

The Defence Learning Network (DLN)

The Defence Learning Network (DLN) is an innovative approach to continuous learning for DND civilian employees and military members.

The DLN is a dynamic delivery system for "anywhere, anytime, just-in-time" training. Through the DLN, employees can take online courses from home, office, and other convenient locations such as our Learning and Career Centres (LCC).

The centres deliver a wide-range of courses to improve employee skills and performance.

Learning and Career Centres

Our LCCs provide learning advisory, career development and training services to DND employees. LCCs have full-time professional staff who offer career advice for civilians, as well as learning and training services for both civilian and military. Employees have access to a library of resources, including: books, videos, audio, and CD-ROMs.

The Learning and Career Centres are located across the country to address the professional development needs of the DND team Canada-wide.

The Centres offer learning resources, courses, lunch and learn sessions and career advice.

Orientation Program

Our orientation program is designed to familiarize new employees with the Department.

Within weeks of your arrival, you will attend a formal orientation session, in which you will learn about the Defence organization, operations, business strategy and culture. In addition, your manager or supervisor will speak with you about your personalized learning plan and explain the performance review process. As part of the Orientation Program, you will also have regular meetings with your supervisor or manager to discuss your progress and development.
