Buckle Up NWT!

For information about Child Occupant Restraints, including links to tips on correct installation of child seats, please click
here.

In most parts of Canada, more than 90% of drivers and passengers wear seat belts, and drivers ensure that children are in properly fitting occupant restraints. That is not the case in many parts of the Northwest Territories. Only half of drivers and passengers wear their seat belts in our smaller communities, and 75% across the NWT. On average each year, two or three people die on NWT roads because they failed to wear occupant restraints. In fact, you are 13 times more likely to die in a collision if you're not wearing your seat belt.

The Buckle Up NWT campaign promotes seat belt use in the communities and encourages NWT residents to work within their community to increase seat belt usage. Funding is available for community initiatives that promote either seat belt usage or drowning prevention. For more information, please e-mail commcoordinator@gov.nt.ca.
