Emilio Stinziani, a 56-year-old father and husband who was reported missing one week ago, has been found dead inside the family home. Thérèse-De Blainville police said his body was discovered Monday evening around 6 p.m. in the attic. "It was not a place that was suspected by family and friends," said Sgt. Martin Charron, spokesman for the Thérèse-De Blainville police force.

A Maryland man who delighted thousands of children by impersonating Batman at hospitals and charity events died when he was hit by a car while standing in the fast lane of Interstate 70, checking the engine of his custom-made Batmobile, police said Monday. Leonard B. Robinson, 51, of Owings Mills, was returning from a weekend festival in South Charleston, West Virginia, when he was struck by a Toyota Camry at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday near the unincorporated community of Big Pool, about 90 miles west of Baltimore. Police said the Camry also sideswiped the red-and-black Batmobile, a replica of the car used in the 1960s "Batman" television show.

Scientists say they have found rare evidence of a prehistoric massacre in Europe after discovering a 7,000-year-old mass grave with skeletal remains from some of the continent's first farmers bearing terrible wounds. Archaeologists who painstakingly examined the bones of some 26 men, women and children buried in the Stone Age grave site at Schoeneck-Kilianstaedten, near Frankfurt, say they found blunt force marks to the head, arrow wounds and deliberate efforts to smash at least half of the victims' shins — either to stop them from running away or as a grim message to survivors. Meyer said the findings from Schoeneck-Kilianstaedten bolster theories put forward after the earlier discovery of two other grave sites in Germany and Austria.

A baby boy is battling an extremely rare bacterial infection that forced doctors at a Toronto hospital to amputate part of his legs. Ethan Faria, who is 15-months-old, was first thought to have pneumonia or bronchitis, but when his mother took him to the hospital with a fever and a cough last month the boy was immediately raced to SickKids hospital in an ambulance. Just to keep him alive ... but he's alive," the boy's mother Rachel Faria said.

Canadian company gets patent for 20-kilometre-high space elevator
Blasting off into space may never look the same if one Canadian company has its way. Thoth Technology of Pembroke, Ont., is developing a 20-kilometre-high free-standing space elevator that would allow astronauts to launch into space from a platform high above the Earth. "From the top of the structure you would be able to launch using a single stage space plane directly into low Earth orbit, and the return to the top of the structure and you wouldn't need any expendable rockets that would come off during the flight," inventor Dr. Brendan Quine said from the Algonquin Radio Observatory in Pembroke, Ont.
