Jefo Nutrition inc. Fined $15,000 for Offences Under the Feeds Act and Regulations

August 27, 2013, Montréal: On April 2, 2013, at the Saint-Hyacinthe Courthouse, Jefo Nutrition inc., located in Saint-Hyacinthe, pleaded guilty to three (3) counts for violating the Feeds Act and Regulations.

The Court of Quebec ordered the company to pay a $3,000 fine and two $6,000 fines for a total fine of $15, 000.

An investigation from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) revealed that the company had manufactured and sold feed for piglets that was not registered in accordance with section 5 of the Feeds Regulations, 1983, thus contravening paragraph 3(1)(a) of the Feeds Act.

The CFIA verifies livestock feeds manufactured and sold in Canada or imported are safe, effective and are labeled appropriately. Effective feeds contribute to the production and maintenance of healthy livestock.
