Camping in Style with the oTENTik at Prince Albert National Park

New visitor experience offers authentic camping experience, but with the comforts of home

Waskesiu Lake, Saskatchewan, August
16, 2013 -- On behalf of the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Canada’s Environment Minister and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, Mr. Rob Clarke, Member of Parliament for Desnethé—Missinippi—Churchill River, today announced that oTENTik, a new accommodation opportunity, is now available for visitors to enjoy in Prince Albert National Park.

“I am pleased to announce that the Parks Canada oTENTiks are now available for families and groups to rent in Prince Albert National Park,” Mr. Clarke said. “Waskesiu is a beautiful resort town in the heart of the boreal forest where visitors can see wildlife from patio cafes or get an ice-cream before heading out for a hike.”

Ten oTENTiks have been constructed in a loop of Beaver Glen campground on the edge of the resort town of Waskesiu. With room to accommodate up to six people per oTENTik, visitors can camp in style and cook over an open fire all within walking distance from sand beaches, a lake for swimming in and boating on, shops and restaurants and national park interpretive programs. oTENTik is the perfect get-away during inclement weather and each has a propane heater for those cool late summer and autumn evenings.

“oTENTik is a great way to experience camping in some of Canada’s most spectacular places,” said Minister Aglukkaq. “An oTENTik is the perfect way for Canadians who don’t own their own tent or cottage to experience camping in a national park while in the comfort of a structure that is part cabin and part tent.”

Parks Canada oTENTik tents are available through Parks Canada’s online reservation service at www.reservation.parkscanada.gc.ca or by phone at 1-877-737-3783.

Parks Canada works to ensure Canada’s historic and natural heritage is protected and, through a network of 44 national parks, 167 national historic sites and four national marine conservation areas, invites Canadians and people around the world to engage in personal moments of inspiring discovery at our treasured natural and historic places.
