Hassle-free Camping at its Best! The oTENTik Makes its Debut at Banff National Park

Authentic camping experience, but with the comforts of home

Banff, Alberta, August
16, 2013 -- On behalf of the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Canada’s Environment Minister and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, Mr. Blake Richards, Member of Parliament for Wild Rose, today announced that 10 new Parks Canada oTENTik tents in Banff National Park are available for visitors to enjoy. Located at the scenic Two Jack Lakeside Campground, oTENTiks offer a modern twist on a favourite traditional Canadian pastime.

“Parks Canada oTENTik tents offer a unique blend of homey comfort and outdoor adventure – an ideal way for visitors who want to discover the joys of camping, but prefer the comfort of a bed and a campsite already set up,” said Mr. Richards. “Through this new approach to camping, Parks Canada is responding to changing visitor needs and expectations when it comes to accommodation. This will ensure Banff National Park will remain a world-class destination for years to come.”

Designed and made in Canada, each Parks Canada oTENTik is equipped with a table, an electric heater, chairs and three beds to accommodate up to six visitors. There is ample storage space under the beds to keep belongings out of the way. Campsites offer parking for up to two vehicles, a picnic table and a fire pit. Visitors need only bring their food, personal effects and sleeping bags.

“The Parks Canada oTENTik offers the opportunity to experience hassle-free outdoor camping in some of Canada’s most spectacular places,” added Minister Aglukkaq. “With oTENTiks, Parks Canada continues to expand upon the wide variety of ways visitors can experience our national parks and connect with nature in ways they are most comfortable.”

This summer, Parks Canada oTENTik tents are available on a first-come, first-served basis in Banff National Park. In 2014, they will be available through Parks Canada’s online reservation service at www.reservation.parkscanada.gc.ca or by phone at 1-877-737-3783.
