Hire a Veteran

Canada’s Veterans and service men and women are known around the world for their skills, abilities and expertise. They are admired for their teamwork and leadership and have executed their duties faithfully and effectively. Each year, between 4,000 and 5,000 Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members leave the military at an average age of 37 years.

Hire a Veteran is a partnership between Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), corporate Canada and local businesses that assists Veterans of the CAF transitioning from military careers to civilian careers in the private sector.

Through Hire a Veteran and the Veterans Transition Advisory Council, we are working hand in hand with corporate Canada to match the world-class skills and expertise of CAF members and Veterans with meaningful career opportunities in the private sector.

Information for Veterans Seeking Employment

If you are interested in transitioning into a civilian job after releasing from the CAF, you are encouraged to raise it in your transition interview, or with your case manager. Case managers will be able to provide you with available opportunities which are suited to your particular skill sets and experience.

Information for Businesses

Corporations and organizations will benefit from hiring highly skilled and motivated Veterans. Veterans are skilled in areas such as: planning, teamwork, communication, management, leadership and skilled trades. These skills would be an asset to any workforce.

Hire a Veteran partners are encouraged to:

give priority status to hire Canadian Veterans when they are equally qualified for a job opening; and / or
provide job openings and hiring targets for your organization to hire-embauchez-veteran@vac-acc.gc.ca so that Veterans can be made aware of new opportunities.

We will also send job postings to:

the Canadian Armed Forces; and
VAC’s national contractor offering vocational related services.
