Cutting-Edge S&T

CHARS will advance Canada's knowledge of the Arctic in order to improve economic opportunities, environmental stewardship, and the quality of life of Northerners and all Canadians.

Cambridge Bay

CHARS will ensure Canadians lead the way in addressing the challenges facing Canada's Arctic by conducting world-class research and delivering excellent and relevant science and technology. The Station will help to build the next generation of polar scientists, innovators, and managers.

The Canadian High Arctic Research Station's (CHARS) mandate will be achieved using five-year plans.  The first of five, the Science and Technology Plan for 2014 to 2019 outlines the five priority areas on which the CHARS science and technology program will initially focus. The priorities targeted during this first program cycle will be phased in gradually as CHARS builds towards the opening of the facility in Cambridge Bay in 2017 and its full operating capacity in 2018/19. Partnerships and collaborations that could contribute to achieving the targeted priorities are welcome. Calls for proposals will be announced through this website.
