Alpha Court Community Mental Health and Addictions Services
1:00 PM to 4:00 PM | Social Worker Joanne Boucher RSW will be starting regular visits to Waverley Branch to offer her services to our patrons. Some of her services include mental health and addictions, completing forms or getting ID, housing and many other. She will be set up in reference so she is visible to the public and have the small meeting room booked for privacy with patrons when needed.
Author Visit - Tanya Talaga
3:00 PM to 4:00 PM | Tanya Talaga, author of Seven Fallen Feathers, will be visiting TBPL to sign a copy of her book for the permanent local history collection. If you have a copy of the book that you'd like to have signed, please feel free to join us.

Readers are Leaders
6:00 PM to 7:00 PM | Children from grades 1, 2 or 3 are matched with volunteer partners from the community for reading practice. They are trained to work with your child one-on-one during a one-hour session weekly from Oct 3 through Nov 28 (no session on Oct 31). By registering for this program, you are committing to bringing the registered child to each session so that the child may derive maximum benefit from the program, and that you will contact the library if they are unable to attend a session to avoid inconveniencing the child's volunteer reading partner. Participation in the program is subject to the availability of volunteer reading partners.Please note: Parents or caregivers and children MUST attend the first session on Oct 3rd to meet the volunteer, program leaders and library staff.

NOWW Workshop: Joe Fiorito
10:00 AM to 3:00 PM | The Northwestern Ontario Writers Workshop (NOWW) will be offering a workshop facilitated by an award winning author and newspaper columnist, Joe Fiorito. The workshop will focus on memoir writing. Mr. Fiorito, originally from Thunder Bay, is the author of the international bestseller The Closer We are To Dying. In 1996, he won the National Newspaper Award for Tango on the Main columns and in 2003 won the Toronto Book Award for The Song Beneath the Ice. The workshop will be on Saturday, November 4th, 10:00-3:00 p.m. at the Mary J L Black Library. Please bring a brown bag lunch. The cost is $10 for NOWW members and $40 for non-members which includes a one-year membership. To register please go to the NOWW website nowwwriters.ca. The number of participants is limited. Sorry, no walk-ins.
