ABOUT THE DESIGN

  • These stamp booklets are designed by Paprika, based in Montreal. Each stamp features an illustration by Louis Hébert.
  • Sandra Schmirler’s stamp is based off a photo taken by Michael Burns. Schmirler, in red and white, delivers the rock down the ice.
  • Sarah Burke’s stamp is based off a photo taken by Spencer Kovats. Burke is shown smiling, on an icy blue and white winter background.
  • Barbara Ann Scott’s stamp is based off a 1948 photo taken by Bill Newton. With her white skating dress and skates, the graceful athlete she looks like she has just completed her routine.
  • Each booklet features a short bio, plus additional photos of each athlete.

BACKGROUND

  • Sandra Schmirler (1963-2000) captured 3 Canadian Curling Championships and 3 World Curling Championships. She skipped Team Canada to a gold medal at the Nagano1998 Olympic Winter Games.
  • Sarah Burke (1982-2012) was a four-time Winter X Games gold medalist, and won the world championship in the half-pipe in 2005. She was instrumental in getting her sport included in the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
  • Barbara Ann Scott (1928-2012) was a two-time World Champion (1947–1948) title, a four-time Canadian National Champion (1944–46, 48) in ladies' singles, and a gold medal winner at the St. Moritz 1948 Olympic Winter Games.
