Search Writers First Directory

Search the directory

Your search for the perfect feature film script is over. This directory gives you a quick and easy way to find the screenplay you are looking for.  No password is necessary, all you have to do is click the link to enter the directory and search by genre – such as horror, romantic comedy, or period piece. You can also search by screenwriter, title, the screenwriter’s city or province of residence. Note: The Writers First program was suspended in 2010 - however, the Directory still provides a wealth of script material for consideration. The program is being replaced by Telefilm and announcements will be made soon.

Information About the Writers First Directory

All scripts in the directory have undergone a rigorous selection process and have received development funding through Telefilm Canada’s Writers First program. The Writers Guild of Canada worked closely with Telefilm to establish this program to help develop and retain a pool of experienced screenwriters, and create a bank of feature film screenplays with box office potential.

The scripts received Telefilm funding to get to treatment or first draft, and their writers have indicated that they are currently available for production or further development. A short précis accompanies each directory entry to give you a summary of the script. You can then contact the writer by email if you are interested in learning more about the script.

Please note that only information about the scripts is available in the directory.  You will have to contact the writer directly if you wish to obtain a copy of the work.
