Eligibility Requirements

To join CMHC, you must:

  • Have the legal right to work in Canada, that is, be a Canadian citizen, be a permanent resident of Canada, or have a valid work permit that extends beyond the term of the employment offer;
  • Meet the requisite government security clearances; and
  • Meet the language requirements of the position.

Government Security Clearances

As a federal Crown corporation, CMHC complies with the provision of the Policy on Government Security relating to security clearance for personnel. For this reason, security screening is a condition of employment.

“Reliability Status” is the minimum requirement you need to obtain prior to joining CMHC and starting your new position. Certain positions may require other security levels. These levels are “Confidential,” “Secret” and “Top Secret.” The job posting specifies a position’s required security level.

The “Reliability Status” screening process usually takes between three to five business days and is initiated once you accept CMHC’s offer of employment. This includes verifying personal data, conducting a criminal records check, confirming educational and professional qualifications and validating data on previous employment and references. A fingerprint check and a credit check may also be required.
