On July 12, 2017, the Federal Court issued its decision in the action between Access Copyright and York University.

The Court’s decision struck a balance between the need for educators and students to access and use print and digital content with rewarding creators for that content. The ruling affirms the need for educational institutions to obtain a licence to ensure legal copyright and content usage.
