When a homeless man came into a cafe asking for spare change, he got more than he expected - a job.

Abi’s cafe owner, Cesia Abigail from Minneapolis, Minnesota, recently shared a picture of Marcus washing dishes at her restaurant to her Facebook page along with his moving story of what happened that day.

Instead of turning him away, the 25-year-old cafe owner asked Marcus: “Why don’t you have a job, you know nothing is given to me for free right?”

At which Marcus replied: “Well, I have a lot of felonies and no one wants to hire me for that, so now I had to turn myself to streets and get money the only way I know, stealing or asking for money.”

That’s when Abigail decided to offer the man a job washing dishes since she was short-staffed that day.

It turned, however, to more than just one day. For the past two weeks, Marcus has been coming to his shift at the cafe on time and working two hours a day, either washing dishes for the restaurant or taking out trash.

Once he gets paid, Marcus buys food from the cafe.

“He decides to pay because it makes him feel good,” Abigail wrote on Facebook.

Abigail has decided to make his part-time position permanent, according to CBS News. They’ve also started to take 10 per cent from Marcus’ paycheck and set it aside so that he learns how to save money.

“I don’t judge someone on how they look,” Abigail told the news outlet. “I do no treat [homeless people] any different.”
