The deaf and hard of hearing community may use 511 on their TTY/TDD device. The information may be accessed anywhere in the province and includes the following:
- Driving conditions influenced by weather conditions
- Road construction activity
- Advisory or emergency messages affecting driving conditions
The information may be accessed by calling the toll free number 1-877-355-0511 on your TTY/TDD device. By using a TTY telephone or computer dailing software such as Windows HyperTerminal, dial the Nova Scotia TTY telephone number 1-877-355-0511. After a connection is made the TTY will display:
Welcome to Nova Scotia 511
E for Engligh F for French
Bienvenue au service 511 de la Nouvelle-Ècosse
Pour le service en anglais, faites le E; pour le service en français, faites le F
After the user selects a language, by entering, for example E and the enter key, the following prompt will be displayed:
Please enter a highway number.
After the user keys a numeric highway number and presses enter, the current highway conditions will be displayed.
Hwy 1 - Coldbrook to Wilmot : Clear (shoulder to shoulder) Wilmot to Bear River Bridge : Clear (shoulder to Shoulder)
If the user enters an unrecognized highway number, the following error message will be displayed:
Sorry, no information is available for highway highway-number
When the user is finished, the TTY code SKSK (stop keying and hang up) will end the call. If the user does not end the call, it will be ended after 3 minutes, 30 seconds of no user input.
