Murray Coolican, Deputy Minister

Deputy Minister, Murray Coolican Murray Coolican has held leadership positions in the not-for-profit, government, political and the private sectors. His background includes time spent in the energy and natural resources sectors, financial services as well as work on environmental and aboriginal issues.

He has served as senior vice-president at Maritime Life and vice-president at a number of companies including Nova Scotia Power, Corporate Communications Limited and National Sea Products. Additionally, he has held senior positions with the Government of Ontario and served as special assistant to the Rt. Honourable Robert Stanfield. Mr. Coolican also chaired the Halifax Chamber of Commerce.

As a volunteer, he has chaired the Halifax Metro United Way, the Halifax Chamber of Commerce and served as vice-chair of the Dalhousie University Board of Governors. He has also served as a director of the Canadian Geographic Society and the World Wildlife Fund (Canada).

He was appointed Deputy Minister of Energy March 8, 2010 and Deputy Minister of Business January 28, 2016 for the Province of Nova Scotia.
