Laboratory Services conducts tests to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of illness and disease.

Specimens for tests requested by physicians are collected at centres operated by LifeLabs. Specimens are then transported by the service provider's courier network to hospital laboratories for timely analysis.

The Laboratory Service Department conducts tests on blood, urine, stool, tissues and body fluids to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of illness and disease. Laboratory tests are also used to monitor treatment.

Laboratory Services carries out an average of 60,000 tests per day. The Department operates 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.

Services are provided to patients in acute and long-term care facilities, to physician offices, and the surrounding community. Residents throughout the Region are able to have most collection services in their home communities, regardless of the type of testing that is being done. Basic testing is done in rural areas and more specialized testing is conducted in Regina. Laboratory Services include Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine, Microbiology, Surgical and Autopsy Pathology, and Cytology.

The laboratories located at the Regina General and Pasqua hospitals also serve as referral centres for tests from throughout southern Saskatchewan.
