As regulator of Ontario's lawyers and paralegals, the Law Society investigates complaints and other matters where a lawyer or paralegal may have failed to meet standards of learning, professional competence and conduct.
Some matters proceed to a hearing and result in an order by the Law Society Tribunal.
The Law Society also prosecutes illegal practitioners who practise law or provide legal services to the public without a licence.

Current Proceedings
Notices are issued at the beginning of a proceeding before the Law Society Tribunal.
Notices include:
- notices of application for conduct, capacity, competence, non-compliance, reinstatement or terms dispute proceedings
- notices of referral for hearing for licensing or restoration proceedings
- notices of motion for an interlocutory suspension or restriction of a lawyer's or paralegal's licence
- notices of appeal

Upcoming Hearings
The Law Society Tribunal handles hearings and appeals, and is responsible for determining the appropriate disposition of notices of application and referral for hearing.

Orders and Reasons
The Law Society Tribunal publishes orders that affect the status of a lawyer or paralegal to practise law or provide legal services, end a proceeding, address the issue of costs or determine some other significant matter. Orders may be updated to reflect amendments or corrections. It also written Reasons for Decision in most, but not all cases.

Regulatory Meetings
In circumstances where lawyer or paralegal misconduct must be addressed but formal discipline proceedings are not warranted, the Law Society may authorize a Regulatory Meeting.
