Events

Each year, the Law Society of Upper Canada holds a number of special events to recognize and honour contributions to the legal profession, share ideas and create further dialogue.

Equity Legal Education Series

The Law Society works in partnership with legal organizations, diverse community groups, schools and universities, and governments to promote awareness, education and discussion on the challenges and opportunities for equality-seeking communities in law and the legal profession.

The series includes panel discussions, public forums, lectures, seminars, workshops and consultations.

Convocation

Convocation is the monthly meeting of Law Society benchers, the directors who govern the Society.

Law Society Medals and Awards

The Law Society holds an awards ceremony every year to bestow medals and awards on deserving members of the profession.

Call to the Bar Ceremonies

Each year the Law Society welcomes new lawyers to the profession in several ceremonies across the province.

Occasionally at these ceremonies, the Law Society awards honorary doctorates to distinguished people in recognition of outstanding achievements in the legal profession, the rule of law or the cause of justice. Recipients serve as inspirational keynote speakers for the graduating classes of new lawyers. Coverage of these special Calls to the Bar can be read on the Gazette.

Paralegal Welcome Reception

Two times a year the Law Society welcomes newly licensed paralegals in receptions at Osgoode Hall. Coverage of these receptions can be found on the Gazette.

Opening of the Courts

A ceremony is held each year to mark the Opening of the Courts. The ceremony is followed by a reception at the Law Society for members of the judiciary, lawyers and paralegals.

Remembrance Day Service

The Law Society holds a Remembrance Day Service on or about November 11 of every year to commemorate the lives of the men and women who served their country in times of war. Information about the 2014 Centenary event on November 10 can be found online.
