Programs available
Capital Markets summer opportunities
Our goal is to be the lead relationship bank for Capital Markets activities with key clients globally.
Through our Capital Markets summer program, you’ll get direct work experience and exposure to a specific area of Capital Markets at CIBC. If you’re a student entering your final year of study, apply to take the first step toward a dynamic, fast-paced Capital Markets experience through this 4-month program. You will have the opportunity to participate in a one-week orientation session, featuring networking opportunities, in-class training as well as sessions led by senior leadership. We’ll support you through your experience by assigning you both a buddy and a mentor who will help set you up for success during your summer term.
We offer integrated capital markets products, investment banking advisory services, corporate lending and top-ranked research to corporate, government and institutional clients around the world. We have offices across Canada and in major cities across the world including New York, Houston, London and Hong Kong.

Summer Graduates Matter Rotation Program (GMRP)
It’s an incredible time to be in banking. Discover how you can become a part of our transformation.
As a Summer GMRP Associate, you’ll join our team for a 4-month placement from May until August within one of our lines of business. The program will help you develop skills through challenging, strategic assignments while making meaningful contributions to CIBC.
During your placement, you’ll gain exposure and develop valuable capabilities by completing comprehensive analyses on a wide range of financial and business issues including reviews of competitive markets, improvements to operating performance and insights to special projects.
Our summer program gives you the experience and exposure that will help grow your professional network across many areas within our bank.
Placements are determined by matching your skills, areas of interest and career aspirations with our business requirements.
You’ll attend a robust 2-day orientation session featuring networking opportunities, in-class training, as well as sessions led by senior leadership. As an Associate, you will be assigned a peer mentor who will help set you up for success during your summer term.
You will participate in a summer group project where you share ideas, solve business challenges and learn about an area outside of your summer placement.
All candidates selected into this program may be offered an opportunity to join our GMRP team full-time upon graduation.
You should apply if you are a student in the first year of your Master’s program.

Summer Human Resources Development Program (HRDP)
Shape the future of CIBC’s culture and community as you explore the next step in your career journey.
As a Summer HRDP Associate, you will join us for 4 months within one of our Human Resources teams. You will be able to develop skills on challenging, strategic assignments while making meaningful contributions to CIBC.
During your placement, you’ll gain exposure and develop valuable capabilities by completing comprehensive analyses on a wide range of financial and business issues including reviews of competitive markets, improvements to operating performance and insights to special projects.
Placements are determined by matching your skills, areas of interest and career aspirations with current state business requirements.
You will be able to participate in a one-week orientation session featuring networking opportunities, in-class training, as well as sessions led by senior leadership. As an Analyst or Associate, you will be assigned a peer mentor who will help set you up for success during your summer term.
As part of your summer experience, you will participate in a summer group project to share ideas, solve business challenges and learn about an area outside of your summer placement.
Candidates selected into this program may be offered an opportunity to join our HRDP team full-time upon graduation.
You should apply if you’re a student in your first year of your Master’s program.

Internal Audit summer opportunities

Our world-class audit team holds an independent view of all of CIBC’s global systems, operations and processes that have an impact on our bank’s success.
As a summer Associate you’ll participate in a collaborative work environment that exposes you to a variety of assignments. Your contributions will include: evaluating risks that affect our success, identifying potential weaknesses that may prevent a business from achieving its goals and advising senior management on the design and implementation of audit controls and processes. Our Associates lead all client management and audit activities and apply their analytical and problem solving skills to our business audits.
As part of this program, you will participate in a personalized orientation designed to integrate you into your summer role.
Candidates selected into this program may be offered an opportunity to join our Internal Audit team full-time upon graduation.

Summer Technology Leadership Advancement Program (TLAP)
You aspire to lead. We’re ready to give you the experience, skills, mentorship and exposure you need to make that happen.
As a Summer Associate, you get an opportunity to advance your career by gaining valuable work experience and exposure through a 4-month internship. The program offers Associates the ability to develop their critical thinking and leadership skills while furthering their understanding of CIBC.
This summer opportunity will help you build technical acumen and develop analytical and interpersonal skills that will prepare you for future leadership roles. Associates get experience conducting business and data analysis, identifying trends and proposing solutions, collaborating with others both inside and outside the organization and presenting findings and recommendations to senior leadership.
You will participate in a robust 2-day orientation session featuring networking opportunities, in-class training, as well as sessions led by senior leadership. As an Associate, you will be assigned a peer mentor who will help set you up for success during your summer term.
Also as part of your summer experience, you will participate in a summer group project to share ideas, solve business challenges and learn about an area outside of your summer placement.
Candidates selected into this program may be offered an opportunity to join our TLAP team full-time upon graduation.

Capital Markets

Commercial Banking Associate Program (CBAP)
Learn from industry-leading commercial bankers as you explore what it means to be a trusted advisor and client champion.
As an Associate in our program, you will have the opportunity to build a wide network of client and internal relationships while developing the skills necessary for a rewarding career in Commercial Banking.
For 12 to 18 months, you will follow a structured learning path through a number of different training formats and modules that will help you understand how we connect with clients and deliver solutions to start and grow their businesses.
As a new member of our team, we offer on-the-job learning, case studies, formal classroom and virtual training sessions designed to build your skills in business development, relationship management, credit structuring and cash management.
You’ll be paired with a coach and work closely with senior members of the Commercial Banking team to proactively engage clients, work with partners to identify clients’ needs and create competitive solutions.
During the program, you’ll have the opportunity to apply your learning in real world client and prospect scenarios as you provide a broad range of analytical, research and presentation support to your team.

CPA Pre-Approved Program
Earn while you learn. Get valuable exposure to different areas of finance while you work toward your designation.
As a CPA Financial Analyst, you will join our CPA Pre-Approved Program, where all placements are approved by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (CPA Ontario) and are designed to meet the CPA competency requirements.
Your experience as a full-time CPA Financial Analyst includes three 12-month rotations. You will spend your first rotation with our Internal Audit team, and your second rotation with our Finance Shared Services team. Before your third rotation, you will consult with your mentor to determine your final placement within Finance, the Audit Division or the Control Division, based on your preferred area of focus.
You can expect to get exposure and experience in the following areas: audit and assurance, performance measurement, financial reporting and analysis, accounting, strategy and risk management, taxation and management decision-making.
We will pair you with a mentor, who will coach and support you through the process.
You should apply if you’re a student who wants to achieve your CPA designation and are entering your final year of your undergraduate program.

Graduates Matter Rotation Program (GMRP)

The Graduates Matter Rotation Program is a full-time, 2-year development program for future leaders for CIBC who strive for superior performance and delivering results. You will learn cross-business knowledge and get exposure to 4 different businesses within the bank connected by themes of client focus, data and analytics, product management and digital innovation.
Every assignment promises you demanding, strategic and meaningful work. During your placement, you’ll gain exposure and develop valuable capabilities by completing comprehensive analyses on a wide range of financial and business issues including reviews of competitive markets, improvements to operating performance and insights to special projects.
You’ll share your experiences with an executive mentor who’ll provide business insights, career advice and guidance around rotation selection, as well as expand your professional network. The program includes a customized orientation curriculum to give you the information you need to be successful, and offers peer and leadership coaching throughout your time in the program.
The program offers structure but also flexibility by selecting placements in consultation with you, the business and the program manager. These conversations start with your skills, areas of development and long-term career aspirations and will be aligned to our business needs and to our bank’s strategic priorities.

Human Resources Development Program (HRDP)
Shape the future of CIBC’s culture and community as you explore the next step in your career journey.
The Human Resources Development Program (HRDP) offers targeted human resources and financial services experience that will position you for future leadership opportunities at CIBC. The program is a full-time 2-year rotational program that includes a series of select experiences within and outside of our Human Resources team. Our goal is to give you the right learning experiences to develop your technical, analytical and interpersonal skill sets by engaging you in demanding, strategic and meaningful work.
You will get exposure and develop valuable capabilities by completing comprehensive analyses on a wide range of business and HR-related issues including: research on industry best practices, consultative support to HR and other CIBC businesses and developing recommendations that focus on delivering a positive employee and client experience. You will be assigned an executive mentor to share business insights, rotation selection and career advice, as well as expand your professional network. The program includes a customized orientation curriculum to give you the information you need to be successful.
Rotations occur in any related CIBC and HR business areas and are determined by business need in consultation with you based on your skills, areas of development and career aspirations.

Internal Audit
Discover what it means to think like an owner. Be a steward of our reputation by monitoring, managing and identifying risk before it happens.
This full-time program focuses on building business acumen through understanding, evaluating and improving the effectiveness of our business operations. As one of our Audit Managers you will critically analyze and evaluate a business’ activities, identify areas of risk that could prevent organizational success and partner with senior management within our lines of business to ensure they establish necessary behavioural and operational changes.
Joining our Audit team full-time will enhance your client and relationship management skills, develop your business acumen and build your professional network across our bank.

Quantitative Associate Rotational Program
Use your analytical skills to solve real business challenges as you explore a career at CIBC.
The Quantitative Associate Rotational Program is designed to provide qualified, ambitious candidates with the opportunity to gain comprehensive experience in developing, validating, implementing, managing and auditing quantitative models. This two-year program consists of four, six-month rotations across various quantitative departments within CIBC that will provide you with the necessary experience and exposure to become an effective leader.
As an Associate, you will gain relevant, hands on Quantitative Analytic experience through the model lifecycle; creating a foundation for a career in a quantitative discipline.
Once you successfully complete the program, you will be supported to secure a full-time permanent role in one of the participant quantitative departments.
You should apply if you are a student entering your final year of a related Master’s program (i.e. Financial Engineering, Math, Physics, etc.). Applications are accepted in September at your career centre.
Technology Graduate Rotational Program (TGRP)
Evolution is happening. The landscape is changing. How will you help shape the future of banking? Effect real change and find your voice.
The Technology Graduate Rotational Program (TGRP) is a full-time, fast-paced 18-month rotation program within Technology. The program offers three 6-month rotations that allow Associates to hone technical, communication and interpersonal skills while developing knowledge of CIBC's dynamic Technology line of business.
The program offers challenging rotations for top graduates with previous CIBC co-op experience and a passion for technology. You’ll be part of a vibrant network of Technology Career Program students and Associates. Upon completion, Associates will be positioned to take on progressive roles within Technology, and set for long-term success within the organization.
Rotations are based on your interests and development goals to offer a depth of experience and fast-track opportunities to expand your skill set. You’ll be part of a growing network that offers networking, social and learning and development opportunities, as well as mentorship from Technology leaders.

Technology Leadership Advancement Program (TLAP)

Rotation opportunities are reviewed and aligned with your areas of interest and help build your leadership and communication skills.
