Sensory Friendly Sunday Mornings
Fort Henry’s new Sensory Sunday program is designed to make the living history interpretation at Fort Henry accessible for a wider audience. Visitors on the autism spectrum or with sensory processing difficulties will have a fun, enjoyable learning experience in a comfortable and accepting environment. The sensory accommodations will include schedule and itinerary suggestions, quiet spaces, hands-on opportunities and gentle social interactions with Fort Henry staff.
Fort Henry Activities Include:
- History Mystery – Try to identify historic objects
- Laundry – Help a soldier’s wife do laundry by hand
- Play the Drum – Learn to play a rope-tension snare drum
- Artillery Training – Learn how to fire a 6 pdr field gun (please note: gun is not fired)
- Skittles Alley – Play Skittles, an early form of lawn bowling
- Barrel Hoop – Play the barrel hoop game, try to keep the barrel hoop upright as you push it along
- Join the Army! – Learn military marching drill as you don your red coat and rifle
- Quiet Rooms are available in both the Upper and Lower Fort where visitors can take a break and do quiet activities such as colouring
